Genesis For Africa

In just over 2 decades since the epidemic became visible, it has spread to every corner of the world. It has infected over 60 million people, claiming almost 22 million lives. This is the equivalent of 7,000 World Trade Centre 9/11 disasters, 4 Holocausts and more than 22 genocides in Rwanda. By the time you read this, it will have risen even higher.

This virus is impacting on the world in both private and public spheres of life, at all levels, yet HIV is elusive in its tracks. Stigma leads people to hide the disease. While some contest the accuracy of the statistics, no-one doubts the impact of the disease, which threatens every aspect of development.

The effect on life expectancy is huge too. In Botswana for instance, life expectancy has dropped to 39 years, compared with the prediction of 72 without AIDS! It is probably the most researched and social problem in the world.

For the new millennium, it was decided that the new slogan for the disease would be:

“We are ALL infected and affected!”

Genesis was born on a course – Landmark Education. I identified a community in my life that I wanted to transform, and my South African community was it! More importantly I wanted to transform the community of Aids orphans.
